Abstract
The NHS has unveiled its 10-Year Health Plan, marking a pivotal shift towards a preventative, community-centred healthcare model across England. At its core, the plan aims to enhance care through personalised, accessible, and sustainable services, leveraging advanced technologies. Inextricably linked is the Life Sciences Sector Plan, part of the Government’s industrial strategy, which looks to enable world class R&D, make the UK an outstanding environment in which to start, scale and grow companies, and use technology to drive health innovation and NHS reform.
Key highlights of the plan include the establishment of new neighbourhood health services that integrate diagnostics, pharmacy services and post-operative care within centralised hubs nationwide. This initiative seeks to streamline care delivery, making it more cohesive and responsive to the needs of patients.
With up to 70% of clinical decision based on a diagnostics pathology, and extended pathology services, already play a crucial role in delivery patient care. However, innovations in diagnostics is likely to play a bigger role in delivering the 10-Year plan, with support and partnerships with Industry being critical to the delivery.
The diagnostics industry is committed to supporting the delivery of the Sector Plan, and ensuring it makes a full and meaningful contribution to the implementation of the 10 Year Health Plan.
