Dr Ian Godber

Consultant Clinical Scientist, QEUH, NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde

Ian trained in Clinical Biochemistry in Dundee and Nottingham, then moved to NHS Lanarkshire initially as a Principal Biochemist, and was later appointed to a post as Consultant Clinical Scientist and Clinical Lead, where he developed an interest in laboratory processes and IT. He was the Clinical Lead for the Scottish Clinical Biochemistry Managed Diagnostic Network from 2016-2020 and has also sat on committees of ACB and the ACS. He moved into his current role as Lead Clinician in Biochemistry at the QEUH in Glasgow in 2020, and when not working can usually be found on his bike participating in endurance mountain biking events.

Consultant EQA Scientist & Deputy Director, Birmingham Quality (UK NEQAS)

Dr Rachel is a Consultant Clinical Scientist and the Deputy Director of Birmingham Quality (UK NEQAS). Birmingham Quality is a department at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. Prior to working at Birmingham Quality she worked for 12 years as a Clinical Biochemist at Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust (now part of University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust) working my way up to a Principal Clinical Scientist and gaining a lot of experience about the routine running of a laboratory! She gained her FRCPath in 2010.

Dr Rachel is the UK NEQAS Scheme Organiser for a number of EQA Schemes including the UK NEQAS for Serum Indices, UK NEQAS for Vitamin D and UK NEQAS for Antibiotics to name a few. Her main areas of interest lie with Pre- and Post-Analytical Quality, where she is on the EFLM HIL Task & Finish Group and the EFLM Working Group Post Analytical. She is also a member of the Board of Trustees for UK NEQAS and for EQALM, which is the European Association of EQA providers in Laboratory Medicine.

Dr Rob Shorten

Consultant Clinical Scientist, Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Rob is a Consultant Clinical Scientist at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals. He has broad experience in clinical microbiology and is the departmental lead for research, and the pathology lead for clinical audit. He is an honorary research associate at University College London, and his research interests have included tuberculosis, including completing a PhD in the field of molecular epidemiology of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, as well as other papers in the areas of laboratory diagnostics, and viral haemorrhagic fevers.

His current interests include diagnostic stewardship and environmental sustainability. He is also the current Chair of the Microbiology Professional Committee of the ACB.
